Celebrating our heritage: A letter from our CEO

Heritage Day is always a fun day in our office. Staff dress up in traditional clothing, and share plates of traditional eats and snacks. If the weather is nice, we try to squeeze in a braai for lunch. I remind myself to look around at our team, and truly appreciate how different we are but how much we have in common.

This year, I’ve been reflecting on what 24 September means as a South African; heritage is the foundation of our identities. It connects us to our past, shapes our present, and guides our future. Africa is a continent rich in history and diversity, with thousands of cultures and languages. Our heritage is a testament to the resilience, creativity, and strength of our people. It reminds us that we are the custodians of a unique legacy, one that we must honor and celebrate.

Africa is a continent that has given birth to countless leaders, innovators, and change-makers. My perspective is deeply rooted in this rich heritage, which informs my approach to leadership and entrepreneurship. Taking Africa seriously is not just a matter of economic or geopolitical importance. It is a recognition of our potential as global leaders in sustainability, technology, and innovation. Africa is home to some of the fastest-growing economies in the world, a youthful and dynamic workforce, and vast natural resources. We have the opportunity to shape the future of our planet in a sustainable and inclusive manner.

As a black female business owner, I am committed to leading by example, promoting diversity and inclusion, and  opening doors for others who may face similar challenges. Let us work together to elevate Africa, to showcase our unique culture and perspective, and to champion the cause of minority entrepreneurs on the global stage.

Wishing you and your friends, family and colleagues a happy 2023 Heritage Day!
